Sometimes Progress Doesn’t Look Like Progress

“The journey doesn’t begin when you turn the key. It begins when you decide to change your life.”

So… What Have We Been Up To?

If you’ve been following our journey, you may have noticed that we haven’t posted many exciting bus updates lately.

The truth?

We’ve been incredibly busy.

Just not in the ways most people imagine.

When people think about preparing for life on the road, they picture buying a bus, building bunks, installing solar, and planning epic adventures.

Those things are coming.

But we’ve discovered that the biggest part of this journey happens long before the bus ever leaves the driveway.

The Search for “The One”

Over the past few months, we’ve traveled hundreds of miles looking at buses.

Some looked perfect in photos.

Some looked promising in the listings.

And some quickly taught us what not to buy.

We’ve looked at Eagles, MCIs, and school buses. We’ve crawled underneath them, driven them, asked questions, and learned more than we ever imagined about engines, suspension systems, storage, and conversions.

A few came close.

None felt right.

While it can be frustrating to walk away, we’ve realized something important:

This isn’t just a vehicle. It’s going to be our home.

Waiting for the right bus is better than rushing into the wrong one.

Life Doesn’t Stop While You Chase a Dream

While the bus search continues, everyday life keeps moving.

We’ve been:

✓ Working our jobs

✓ Finishing college classes

✓ Raising puppies

✓ Downsizing our home

✓ Selling items online

✓ Paying down debt

✓ Planning for our future

Some days it feels like we’re making huge progress.

Other days it feels like we’re standing still.

But every item sold, every box packed, and every goal reached is one more step toward January 2027.

Dreaming Through Travel Guides

One of our favorite projects recently has been reaching out to tourism departments across the country and requesting physical travel guides.

In a world where everything is digital, there’s something special about spreading maps across the kitchen table and dreaming about where the road might take us.

We want to discover:

  • Small towns
  • Hidden gems
  • Scenic backroads
  • Local attractions
  • Places that don’t always show up in a Google search

As the guides start arriving, we’re building a collection that will help shape our future adventures.

More Than a Bus

The closer we get to launch day, the more we realize that this journey isn’t really about the bus.

The bus is just the tool.

The dream is bigger than that.

The dream is family dinners with mountain views.

The dream is learning history by standing where it happened.

The dream is slowing down enough to enjoy the moments that often get lost in everyday life.

The dream is making memories while our kids are still willing to make them with us.

What Progress Looks Like Right Now

Sometimes progress looks like a bus parked in the driveway.

Sometimes progress looks like another item sold on eBay.

Sometimes progress looks like a travel brochure arriving in the mailbox.

Sometimes progress looks like walking away from a deal that isn’t right.

And sometimes progress looks like simply refusing to give up.

What’s Next?

We still don’t know exactly which bus we’ll end up with.

We don’t know exactly where our first destination will be.

What we do know is this:

We’re still moving forward.

One decision.

One box.

One mile.

One dream at a time.

Thank You for Following Along

Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or just recently found us, thank you for being part of this journey.

We can’t wait to share the next chapter with you.
